Wellington

Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand as well as being the main centre of the countries culture and arts. It is home to the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Royal New Zealand Ballet, opera companies, theatre and a large number of art galleries, including the National Museum of New Zealand Te Papa.

It is surrounded by hills, a rugged coastline and one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. The city is very compact with many of its natural attractions less than ten minutes drive from the centre of town. The cities sprawling botanical gardens with its formal rose gardens and extensive bush walks is only 1km from the central commercial area and Parliament Buildings. A Cable Car takes you from the main shopping area of Lambton Quay to Kelburn, the Botanic Gardens and superb harbour views.

While modern construction has changed the skyline with its modern skyscrapers, Wellington has also retained many of its historic sites and buildings. Among these is Antrim House, the Colonial Cottage Museum, Old St Paul's Cathedral, Katherine Mansfield's Birthplace, the Parliament Buildings, including the 'Beehive' and the many old villas situated on the steep hillsides.

Adventure activities include mountain biking, sailing, paragliding, bush walking and much more. Sightseeing, shopping and a harbour cruise are also a must.
