Auckland
Auckland is New Zealand's largest city, built on a narrow isthmus and surrounded by extinct volcanoes. Its population is 1.3 million, which not only makes it New Zealand's largest city but also means that one in every three New Zealanders live there.
Also known as the 'City of Sails', Auckland is often voted one of the best lifestyle cities in the world. It is a large, fast, modern city but its three harbours, its many beautiful beaches and the numerous islands in the Hauraki Gulf allow for a relaxed style of living not found in any other city in the world It has the most pleasure craft per capita of any city in the world and is host to many sailing events, including the America's Cup in 1999 and 2003.
Auckland is the world's biggest Polynesian city with Maori, Samoan, Cook Island and Tongan people all contributing to the city's vibrant culture.
